Rejoicing in Our Present: The Needlers
The Needlers are a group of women who meet twice per month to knit, crochet, embroider, and fellowship together. It was begun by a group of women who had used their gifts in these areas in service to our church.

Throughout the history of Brewster Baptist Church, Women’s ministries such as the Ladies Aid, the Golden Links and Women’s Fellowship, were instrumental in supporting and fundraising for the ministries in and through BBC by hosting church fairs a few times year.
Throughout the history of Brewster Baptist Church, Women’s ministries such as the Ladies Aid, the Golden Links and Women’s Fellowship, were instrumental in supporting and fundraising for the ministries in and through BBC by hosting church fairs a few times year. (We will share more about these ministries in future weeks.)
Corinne Cowen (11/24/1930-11/03/2019) became a member of BBC in 1955 and was an active member of these ministries.

During the 1990s and 2000s, Corinne would regularly lead crafting workshops to make craft items for these church fairs. These craft sessions were well-attended and provided opportunities for fun and fellowship.
In March of 2010, Corinne and Gini Haller began a new “BBC Needlework Group” inviting anyone who knit, crocheted, and embroidered to get together twice a month to enjoy each other’s company while working at their hobbies.

Marcia Corwin shared that she started with this group right away and has been a part of it ever since.
The 2015 Annual Report shared that:
“[The Needlers] is an active group of ladies that provide hand-knitted blankets for all babies/children dedicated at BBC.
They also provide prayer shawls for our pastors to distribute to those in need. We supply the Knit Table with beautiful items created especially for the Holiday Fair each year.
Meeting on the second and fourth Fridays of the month we fellowship together and pray for our hands to provide God’s love to others.”

Now meeting on the first and third Thursdays of each month, the Needlers are still going strong – a group of more than a dozen women who come together to share their skills and knowledge of knitting, crocheting and embroidery, building close relationships and supporting each other through life’s unique circumstances.

Barbara Yocom shared that the Needlers was the first in-person event that she attended at BBC, and now she and her husband, Tom, are active BBC members.
Currently led by Su Ballantine and Gini Donnelly, the Needlers welcome all forms of needlework, and beginners to experts are welcome. They’ve even been known to teach folks exploring needlework for the first time. They look forward to sharing their talents, great fellowship, and occasionally baked goods!
Please join them anytime, just follow the laughter down the hall.
