We Gather
- Have there been significant insights since last week? What have you noticed?
- Think of some notable doors. What makes them identifiable?
Week 3 – Seek Healthy Habits
(It is helpful to be reminded of our healthy habits.)
- Bring your full self and make room for others.
- Feel welcome; extend welcome.
- Be quick to listen and slow to speak.
- Share the air time; leave space for everyone to weigh in.
- Practice using “I” statements as you share and reflect.
- Focus on people first rather than things.
- Be comfortable with silence – we all need time to reflect.
- Be kind. Hold in trust confidential information and be considerate of your neighbor.
- Look for opportunities to learn and be renewed. Approach our time with a sense of wonder.
- Pray always.
We Hear the Word
Take time to slowly read and digest this week’s text, John 10:1-10.
During this time, it is ok to use a digital device or a Bible to read the passage.
Different translations are welcome.
Each person who is comfortable may read a verse until the passage has been read.
We Reflect
What stayed with you?
How is Jesus like a door or a gate?
What do you suppose he means about going in and out and finding pasture?
We Wonder
Is Jesus inviting our church to enter through any doors of faith? Any new or different ones?
What do you find in common with Jesus’ promises about bread and light?
In your life, how can you follow Jesus into new ways of being?
How is Jesus calling you to enter into fresh pastures and abundant life?
Where do you need safety and security in your present situation?
How does Psalm 121 remind you of John 10:1-10? Do any other scriptures remind you of John 10:1-10?
Can we trust in Jesus’ singular claim to be the way to salvation? Why or why not? Do we trust him?
We Pray for Each Other
Take some time to share prayer needs and wants with one another.
Pray for one another in groups of 2-3 if possible.
Take It Home: Memorize this week’s key verse (John 10:9) and share it with a trusted friend.
I am the gate. Whoever enters by me will be saved, and will come in and go out and find pasture.
John 10:9 NRSV
