Rejoicing in Our Present: The Connecting Team
The mission of the Connecting Core Ministry is to welcome all who come to worship at BBC. Our committee members provide more personalized information about BBC, our weekly worship services, and our weekly, monthly and special events.
Originally formed in 2004 as the Assimilation Core Ministry, it works to get people connected with BBC by helping them find a small group or a ministry team where they can use their spiritual gifts and share their experience and interests.
Every member of BBC is a member of our team’s efforts. We are all connectors. Every time any one of us welcomes fellow worshippers, makes a phone call, sends a card, gives someone a ride to church or helps with the Holiday Fair, we all are spreading the love of Jesus.
When asked, “What brought you to BBC?” new members usually answer that they were invited by a friend, or some have heard Pastor Doug on the radio.
At each service, smiling hosts at the Information Center answer questions, direct folks to various classes and meeting rooms, and provide information packets and gift bags to visitors.
Bibles are given to people who would like one, and many people volunteer as hosts throughout the year.
The Connection Card is another way of reaching out to visitors. The Connection Card is included in our Sunday bulletin, church app and on this website.
A visitor or online viewer can complete the information on the card, which is submitted to the church office. This information is forwarded to an assigned team member, who contacts the visitor, and provides more detailed information. After three months, a follow up call is made to support the visitor in connecting with BBC.
Twice each year, a New Member Seminar/Meet the Pastor Supper is planned. The pastors explain our principles of faith and beliefs as followers of Jesus Christ and American Baptists.
Following this meeting, attendees can decide if they would like to proceed with membership, and the Connecting Team will help guide them through this process. So far this year, Brewster Baptist welcomed 18 new members into our church family.
Cindy Caldwell serves as Core Ministry Leader for members of the Connecting Team, which includes Roy Freeman, Sandy Light, Bev Olsen, Laurie Paine, Nancy Sveden, Lisa Radtke, Art Radtke, and Pastor David Pranga.
Lorraine Donnelly completed her service in 2023, having contributed significantly to the team’s success.
