Maturing in Christ
Spiritually, the same is true, if we’re to be spiritually alive, we need to continue to mature. While I’m continually trying to mature in Christ myself, it’s also my responsibility to help others in the church to do the same.
And these verses in Colossians are for the church. Paul’s writing to those of us who have already “received Christ Jesus as Lord,” about the next steps to take once we’ve asked Jesus to be the leader and guide of our life. More than a one-time decision, Paul says following Jesus means continuing to live our lives in him for the rest of our lives. We grow and mature as followers of Jesus by engaging in spiritual disciplines and habits so we may all grow into maturity in Christ.
