Jesus’ Upside Down Kingdom: Rethinking How Life is Supposed to Work

Jesus told the crowds all these things in parables; without a parable he told them nothing. This was to fulfill what had been spoken through the prophet:

“I will open my mouth to speak in parables;
    I will proclaim what has been hidden from the foundation of the world.

~ Matthew 13:34-35 (NRSV)

Each passage that we’ll hear, in this five-week series gives us a different version of the reaction, “Wait, hat’s not the way life’s supposed to work”: 

• The seed falls on different soil?
• The humble are justified?
• Let the weeds grow?
• Everyone gets the same pay?
• The younger son gets a party?! 

There is tension between our instincts and Jesus’ kingdom that we need to listen to and learn from, to live fully as disciples of Christ.
