Charisma – Conundrum – Cross

We were blessed this year to hear the message from Rev. Vincent Fasano.

Tonight we participate in the church’s oldest observance during Holy Week.

Maundy Thursday is a day and night associated with the agony in the Garden of Gethsemane, the betrayal of Jesus by Judas, and the arrest of Jesus.

But the central commemoration is the celebration of the Passover Meal Last Supper which Jesus had with his disciples, the night he washed their feet and the supper in which he gives the meal new meaning, creating the ritual of the Last Supper – The Holy Eucharist.

The word “Maundy” – from the Latin “Mandatum” – comes from the new commandments Jesus gives us at the end of the supper.

All these events are celebrated this evening, all prefiguring the suffering and crucifixion on Friday.
