Sumer is Icumen In

‘Cuckoo Song,’ circa 1250.

For ages mankind has marked the return of summer with song and verse. Here at BBC the return of the sunny season is a reminder that it’s time to start planning for the Holiday Fair. The Fair Team—some of our busiest members—are already hard at work these days—the planning days. Every Holiday Fair benefits a Cape Cod charity or non-profit. This year’s beneficiary will soon be chosen in consultation with the Pastors and the Mission Team. Previous fairs have dedicated all proceeds to community organizations such as: The Homeless Prevention Council, Habitat for Humanity, Lower Cape Outreach Council, Hands of Hope Outreach Center and Homeless Not Hopeless.

quiltThe Holiday Fair is scheduled for Saturday, November 2, and will again feature a variety of “shoppes” offering baked goods, gift baskets, candy, crafts, jewelry, toys, attic treasures, books, floral arrangements, hand knits and a truly amazing selection of items to bid on in the Silent Auction.

The question is…what will you do for the Fair? Crafters and woodworkers will mull over ideas for things unique and clever. Knitters will leaf through their patterns for something colorful and irresistible. Bakers and candy makers will clip recipes and gardeners will think about hydrangea blooms, baby’s breath and pine cones. But, perhaps you are not into crafts, don’t bake or aren’t much of a gardener. Never fear, this is an EOE Fair—there is a job for you!

You can help to decorate the church for Fair day, or help set up the tables for the shoppes. On Fair day you could meet and greet visitors or be a salesperson. “The time has come…” Start that “to do” list right now!
